Our setting

From our lawns you have a choice of spectacular outlooks of Giant’s Castle rising to nearly 3000 metres in the uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage site, the hamlet of Rosetta, the Mooi River and the rolling hills of the Midlands.

Traditional picnics on blankets and cushions

There’s the traditional picnic on rugs with specially developed, low, Japanese style tables – but all in style. Napery, glasses, crockery, cutlery and ice buckets for the wine are the order of the day. Our rugs and cushions offer the perfect way to soak in the mountain air with a coffee and liqueur. OR one can sit at intimate café tables and chairs, while for groups there are long tables available.

Still perfect in chilly weather- warm fleecy blankets

In winter we have wonderful warm sunny days, but should you feel chilly, we have soft fleecy blankets in which to wrap yourself. Picnickers are welcome to sit indoors next to a log fire or enjoy their picnic in our cosy restaurant.

The Gastronomic Experience

Our food blends local and regional South African ingredients and recipes with international influences.

A basic picnic basket is available and will contain fresh Horizons baguettes and bread sticks and a number of treats. These will depend on the fresh ingredients available in season.
